Losing the “Marriage 15”

I’ve got one thing going for me, since giving birth to my son four and a half months ago, I’ve managed to lose every pound I gained during pregnancy. But, I’m stuck at my pre-pregnancy weight, which is still about 15 pounds more than I weighed when I got married. It could have been all those dinner dates, movie nights and times spent staring dreamily into each other’s eyes as newlyweds. It could have been the fact that all I knew how to cook that first year was spaghetti, frozen pizza, macaroni & cheese, and hamburger helper. It could have been my fast paced job which only afforded me enough time to eat a Snickers or a bag of Doritos for dinner. Whatever the reason, I found the weight slowly accumulating around my hips, much to my dismay. I think I can attribute my weight loss plateau to two things: my sweet tooth and my busy schedule. It’s hard for me to turn down anything containing chocolate or ice cream. When I have a choice between exercising and catching a nap, I usually take the nap, considering the lack of sleep I get each night.

Last month I resolved to cut out desserts. That lasted a whole week. Sadly, I did lose a few pounds just by cutting sweets. I say “sadly” because those pounds returned just as quickly as my willpower disappeared. When people talk about making a lifestyle change, this is why. You can’t expect a woman like me to give up sweets for life.

I am trying my hardest to find ways I can incorporate exercise into my son’s playtime. Sometimes we dance in the living room and sometimes I jog around the house with him on my hip. I have no idea whether it’s making any impact on my weight loss goals.

Over the next few months, I’ll be trying to make some changes and lose that “Marriage 15.” During that time, I’ll also be blogging about my weight loss journey. Wish me luck!
