You and your significant other could both stand to lose a few pounds, tone up, get more exercise, or at least make healthier choices. Maybe one of you only needs to lose weight, but the other one would like to just get more exercise in to keep in shape. Any way you look at it why not do it together. It is a chance to not only get healthier, but also to spend some quality time together.
Getting in shape together is not only fun, but also provides great encouragement. When you exercise with your partner you are saying that you care and that you support them.
Here are some things that you should and should not do when working out together:
Do not make it a contest. One or the other of you will undoubtedly be ahead. You are not going to stay neck-in-neck the entire time. Be prepared for this and be happy for each other. If you are the one ahead, do not mention it and please do not be jealous. This will only defeat the purpose of being each other’s rock.
Set up specific days in which you will work out together. Working out could be something as simple as taking a long walk together or it can be as involved as joining a gym together. Consider one another’s ideas and take turns in carrying them out.
Serve healthier meals. There will be the dinner nights out and you can let loose a little bit, but be careful and get right back on track afterwards.
Encourage each other and offer helpful suggestions in a gentle way.
Dieting and working out with your significant other will benefit you not only in healthy ways, but also in ways that will bring you and your partner closer together and more in tune with each other. Working together on mutual goals will strengthen your relationship and make the road to getting healthy that much easier and more enjoyable.
