Louisiana has an extensive Medicaid program. In addition to the regular Medicaid program, it has several different programs that cover children. It also has programs for women that cover pregnancy, family planning, and treatment for breast and cervical cancer.
Medicaid is a public, or government run, health insurance program. It is designed to provide individuals and families who are low-income, and who cannot afford to buy health insurance from a private insurance company, with affordable health insurance coverage. Medicaid is funded by both the federal government and the government of an individual state.
In Louisiana, the Medicaid program is administered by the Department of Healthcare and Hospitals. It is easy to find important information about the Medicaid program on the state’s website. It is possible to apply or Medicaid online.
It is also easy to see information about the different portions of Louisiana’s Medicaid program that are available to eligible people. Each is designed to cover specific situations. Several parts of the state’s Medicaid program cover children. Louisiana also has four Medicaid programs that are designed to cover women.
The first category of Medicaid programs for women include two programs that are designed to cover women who are pregnant and who need health care coverage. One is called LAMOMS. It is no-cost health insurance for pregnant women. It covers all prenatal and delivery care.
The other Medicaid program for pregnant women is called LAHIPP. It stands for Louisiana Health Insurance Premium Payment. Women who qualify for this program can have Medicaid pay for all or part of their private health insurance premium. This is for expectant mothers who have access to health insurance coverage, but need help paying the premiums.
There is also a program called Take Charge. It offers no-cost health coverage to Louisiana women who are between the ages of 19 and 44 and who don’t have health insurance. The woman must earn below 200% of the federal poverty level in order to qualify. This program helps women gain access to family planning services. Women who want to avoid an unplanned pregnancy should check out this program.
The Breast and Cervical Cancer Program is for women who have no health insurance and who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, cervical cancer, or a pre-cancerous condition, and who require treatment. The program is operated through the LSU Health Sciences Center Women’s Preventative Health Program. Medicaid offers no-cost health coverage for free through this program.
