Love The Look OR Love To Hate It

In Hollywood new looks come and go faster than figure skater Sasha Cohen spins on ice. The latest makeover victims… I mean trendsetters… to hit the airwaves are Clay Aiken and Scarlett Johansson.

Let’s start with Aiken. Not only does he have a new album out, but he also has a new look to boot. Unfortunately for the “American Idol” runner-up it’s his “transformation” that’s garnering more attention than his new CD. While I am not a huge “American Idol” fan, I did watch enough to get used to Aiken’s spiky-hair then–BANG—he premiered a hipper (I guess) shaggy do. Personally, I think it looks like a toupee. It seems more Beatles meets mop. Now, before all you Claymates send me hate comments I would like to say that his hair (neither the cut nor the color) in no way takes away from his musical talent. I’m sure his new album will go platinum… I just wonder if his hair will too.

As for actress Scarlett Johansson, she is currently modeling a classic platinum blond screen siren look in her new movie “The Black Dahlia.” While her transformation is character-based, rock stars like Christina Aguilera and Gwen Stefani seem to have adopted the look in real life. Both have appeared at recent public events modeling platinum curls and deep red lips. Fashion experts say crimson lipstick is “one of the big emerging beauty trends, and the platinum hair is a nice counterpoint to all the brunettes popping up lately.” So, I guess if you can pull it off, work it.

Before I close (as long as we are talking fashion) let’s talk about Tom Cruise and his recent formal attire kick. Lately Katie Holmes fiancé has been photographed in perfectly tailored suits—-at sporting events. Most recently he was seen wearing a pinstriped blazer to his daughter Isabella’s soccer game in Beverly Hills and a suit and tie to the Washington Redskins home opener. He doesn’t strike me as the type to not have a change of clothes in his car (if in fact he was coming to the games directly from a formal event), but then again if he spills beer or ketchup on his suit it’s not like he can’t afford to buy a new one.

What do you think of the star’s new looks?
