Low Cost Activities To Do With Kids (1)

School’s out, and summer’s in full swing. I have five I have to find things to do with everyday, and we are definitely on a tight budget! We are lucky enough to have a small pool in our backyard, but even so, there are times when everyone wants something else to do. So here are a few examples of boredom busters. Try something new each day of the week and share your own ideas with me!

Look for Community Events

Zoo’s, Children’s Museums, and your local Park and Recreations departments usually have reduced or free events for children. Sometimes you can take your child to the park for a symphony or concert for free. Look for the free mini newspapers and flyer’s that advertise these events, typically found outside of restaurants, grocery stores, libraries, and schools. You will almost always find something to do in there.

Walk, Hike, Nature At It’s Best

View nature, soak up the sun, enjoy the walk. Put babies in stroller and put your kids on their bikes and go for a walk. It’s free and it’s exercise. It also can give you a chance to “catch up” with your child in your busy or their often busy lives.

Picnic in the Park

This is on of my favorite things to do with my family. Pack up a picnic lunch or dinner (we do dinner a lot!), and head for a park with a playground or field to play in. Bring Frisbee’s or balls for everyone to share and play with. Don’t forget a blanket for snuggling and a book for reading. This is a great free event and provided you pack up your lunch or dinner from home, it shouldn’t cost you anything extra!

Camp Under the Stars

Pretty self-explanatory. You don’t have to go to a place to camp, you can even do it in the backyard or at a local park. Some are free, some have low cost rental fees. But take the family on an overnight camping trip. Make a fire and toast marshmallows. Tell ghost stories or just share special times with your family. It’s guaranteed to be a memory that lasts a lifetime!

It’s At the Library

Visit your library frequently. Not only do libraries offer a special story time for young children once a week, often they also provide craft time too. There are also free events they sometimes sponsor such as concerts, classes and shows. Checking out books and reading them together can be a lot of fun, but don’t forget the media section. You can borrow DVD’s from your library and set up a family movie night (basically for FREE!)

Tomorrow I will share some more ideas for summer boredom buster ideas. Please watch for the article and share your own ideas in the meantime!
