Well, apparently lying to protect your kid from death row is not such a bad thing after all.
Leave it to the uber-dysfunctional Anthony family to show the world that perjuring yourself in a high-profile court case has its privileges.
According to news reports, the prosecutor’s office in Orange County, Florida, is letting Casey Anthony’s mother Cindy off the hook. Earlier today the state attorney’s office announced that Caylee Anthony’s beloved grandma will not face perjury charges for testimony she gave during Casey’s murder trial. You’ll recall that Cindy initially told police she did not search for the word “chloroform” on the family’s computer, but when she was called as a witness for the defense she said she did.
During the trial Cindy went public claiming that it was she, not her psycho daughter, who Googled the term “chlorophyll,” which then prompted her to look up “chloroform.” Cindy went on to tell the court that the reason she conducted the computer search in the first place was because her dog ate some unidentified leaves… oh, and something about a hand sanitizer “scare.”
In the end, prosecutors called Cindy’s employer to the stand, who verified that Casey’s mother was in fact at work, not at home as she alleged during the times that the computer was being used to search for “chloroform.”
Shortly after Cindy was shown to be a liar, and her daughter was subsequently acquitted of killing young Caylee, media commentators the world over begged the question: Would you lie for your child?
It’s a tough query, even for experts like Dr. Drew, who admitted on his cable TV show that even he struggled with the moral dilemma.
Why Cindy Anthony would want to stick her neck out for her ingrate of a daughter (who, by the way, denied a jail visitation request by her mother hours after being found not guilty of tossing her toddler in a swamp to rot) is beyond most of us; however, I think the question is thought provoking: Would you lie for your kid if you were in Casey Anthony’s mother’s shoes?
