Macaroni and Cheese Bake

A good Macaroni and Cheese bake should be formed but creamy. I have eaten macaroni and cheese bake that was formed but very dry. I have also eaten this dish too creamy and not formed. It was like eating a runny macaroni and cheese with onions. Here is a great recipe that will leave your Macaroni and Cheese Bake creamy and formed, not dry.

You will need:
1 Cup elbow macaroni

1/4 Cup finely chopped onion

1 Tbsp Butter

1 Tbsp flour

1&1/4 Cup Milk

6-8 slices of American Cheese

1/4 teaspoon pepper

salt

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Cook macaroni according to the package. Remember to add salt to your water. Meanwhile, in a saucepan, cook onion until tender, not brown. Stir in flour and pepper. Add milk. Cook and stir until slightly thickened and bubbly. Add cheese. Stir until melted. Drain macaroni well. Add macaroni to a greased one quart casserole dish. Pour cheese sauce over macaroni and stir. Place in the oven to bake uncovered for 20 minutes or until it starts to bubble around the edges. Let it stand for 10 minutes to firm.

Note: The secret to keeping it moist is the slices of cheese makes it creamy because it usually has added milk in it as well. And not letting this dish set out uncovered for long periods of time. It will make the Macaroni and Chees hard and dry. Put some foil over it instead.

Suggestions: You can add slices of tomato all over the top if you like tomato. You can also try a different cheese, like mild or sharp. You can add shredded cheese instead of sliced. You could add bacon too.

Meal suggestions using this dish:
Meatloaf, Macaroni and Cheese Bake, Green beans, rolls
Ham, Macaroni and Cheese Bake, Deviled eggs, corn on the cob
Turkey, mash potatoes, Macaroni and Cheese Bake, peas and carrots
