It’s a girl for Madonna!
According to reports, the Material Mom will add another daughter to her brood of kids, which already includes 12-year-old Lourdes, 8-year-old Rocco, and 3-year-old David Banda. All three children have different fathers, and the newest addition won’t be an exception.
Reports say Madonna will return to Malawi next week to adopt a new daughter. The news comes just a year after the singer’s official adoption of David Banda, which took more than two year thanks to legal wrangling.
Local officials in Malawi say the pop diva is scheduled to arrive in Lilongwe next Monday to finish the adoption paperwork and appear in court to obtain legal guardianship of the child.
While the identity of Madonna’s new daughter has yet to be confirmed, an official at the welfare department revealed to reporters that the singer filed a custody bid for three-year-old Mercy James last year.
Madonna’s reps have not released an official statement, though the singer turned actress recently admitted to a British newspaper that she was “considering” a second adoption from Malawi.
“Many people – especially our Malawian friends – say that David should have a Malawian brother or sister,” Madonna told the paper. “It’s something I have been considering, but would only do if I had the support of the Malawian people and government.”
Whether the singing sensation has the support of the government remains to be seen, but she does have one Malawian resident in her corner-—her adopted son’s biological father.
David Banda’s father Yohane told Reuters news agency he is thrilled that his son will have someone his age and ethnicity to bond with. Yohane also revealed that he is planning to see his son when Madonna travels to Malawi next week.
“I am delighted,” Yohane told reporters. “I want to see my son.”
While Yohane catches up with his son, Madonna will reportedly have her hands full in court trying to convince a judge not to listen to critics who have questioned whether the recently-divorced entertainer should be able to adopt as a single parent. Single parent adoptions are currently not allowed in Malawi.
According to children rights activists, Madonna will have to prove that as a single parent she still has the abilities to raise another child alone.
I’m sure she has the financial resources to do so, but given the amount of times those kids are photographed with their nannies while their 50-year-old mom is hitting the town with her new 22-year-old boy toy, if I were a judge I would be more interested in reviewing Madonna’s au pairs’ child care abilities than the singer’s.
