Maestro Classics Presents The Tortoise and the Hare

The Tortoise and the Hare is a well known and beloved story. Now that it is coupled with Maestro Classics your child will not only learn about this Aesop Fable but classical music. The London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Stephen Simon and narrated by Yadu will delight you and your children with this classic tale.

I was so excited to receive my review copy in the mail. The year before my children studied ancient history and many of Aesop’s Fables. Of course a study of Aesop’s Fable is not complete without The Tortoise and the Hare. Not only does this CD provide an opportunity for music appreciation but an expansion into other areas of study. The booklet which comes with the CD provides activities for your children to enjoy. Where the booklet touches you can expand to teach more about the fable, the differences between tortoises and turtles and hares and rabbits, reading music, listening skills, and critical thinking. The book also gives a beautiful illustration the instruments used in an orchestra. This CD and little booklet is a treasure trove of learning! If you want to use it to jumpstart a unit study, use it as a mini study, or just entertainment you will not be disappointed.

The CD is not simply a rendition of The Tortoise and the Hare with a booklet although that alone is fantastic. It also contains other tracks which talk about the story, talk about how the music is composed and has an adorable version of Pretzel Vendor of Paris with a sing along at the end of the CD.

Music is often a neglected area of instruction in a homeschooling family. Let’s not forget this important aspect of education as it can open up a whole new world of creativity and learning. Broaden your child’s listening horizons by engaging them in this wonderful adaptation of The Tortoise and the Hare.
