Make a personalized sign for Mom. Use her name and make a sign that says “Carrie’s Kitchen” (insert your mom’s name of course), or anything else you think Mom would like.
Items Needed:
- Pre-cut wood form (available in craft stores in all shapes and sizes)
- Saw-tooth picture hanger (adult help/supervision required)
- Stamps, glitter (anything you want to decorate with)
- Stencils for lettering
- Paint
- Lace (for edges, optional)
- Glue
1. First, decide what shape and size you want the sign to be. Pick out a piece of pre-cut craft wood that works for you.
2. Paint the wood if desired.
3. Stencil on letters to make the message you want.
4. Add any decorations that you think Mom will like. If you are making a sign for the kitchen, choose colors that match the kitchen. If the sign isn’t for any particular room, you might want to use Mom’s favorite color.
5. Glue lace around the edges of the sign, if you want. Do this from the back so the glue won’t show but the lace will peek out.
*You can also use a short message instead of Mom’s name. The message can be inspirational or amusing.
Here are a few ideas:
- Live, Love, Laugh
- Home is where the heart is (make a heart instead of spelling out the word)
- Home Sweet Home
- Kitchen closed!
- Mom is off duty
- Kiss the Cook
- Bless this home and all who enter
Variations:
1. Instead of making the sign a wall hanging, you can glue on large magnets so Mom can hang it on the fridge.
2. Instead of a saw-tooth picture hanger, you can staple ribbon to the back and use the ribbon for hanging.
3. To make the sign three-dimensional, glue on miniatures such as a tiny fridge or stove (you can often find small reproductions of appliances and things on refrigerator magnets. Just remove the magnets and glue them to the sign).
