Some areas don’t get much snow, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make an adorable snowman (or woman) or a whole bunch of different ones to decorate your home inside. A snowman is perfect just for winter or even for Christmas.
Paper Bag Snowman
You can use paper lunch sacks to make a cute snowman. If you can only find the brown ones, you’ll need to paint them white and let them dry first. If you can find white ones, even better!
Stuff three bags with crumpled up newspaper. You obviously want one real fat one, one medium one, and a small one. After stuffing, tightly tie the top of the bag closed with string. Trim off any excess paper and glue the bags together.
Cover a surface and turn on a vent fan, or go outside, and spray the entire thing with spray snow. When it’s dry, decorate. Glue on buttons for eyes (and for buttons down the front), use orange felt for a carrot nose (or pick up a toy carrot and glue it on), and add a hat and a scarf. You can make these out of felt, or you can pick up doll sized winter wear.
Add sticks for arms if you like. The easiest way is to make a small hole in either side of the middle bag and poke a light stick all the way through some sticks out on both sides to like arms. Make felt mittens and glue them onto the ends of the sticks.
Mittens
Draw the shape of a mitten on felt or print and trace the image shown. Cut it out and trace it on the felt. Cut it out and glue the two together.
Scarf
You can just use a simple strip of felt or fabric or you can cut strips or squares of different colors and glue them together with craft glue. Cut little slits at each end to make fringe.
Hats
A large sock makes a cute hat. Stretch out the opening, and then just tie a knot in the sock a few inches from the opening. Cut off the excess. Follow the directions HERE (look under “costumes”) to make a top hat or a bonnet for your snowman or woman. Just use cardboard instead of paper for the top hat and cover the cardboard with felt.
