As discussed in a previous article, most teachers begin working, without pay and by their own will, a week or so before school is to start. There are several things that teachers do to get ready for the next school year. Most of these things cannot wait to be done after the children arrive.
During this time teachers put up new decorations and bulletin boards. They begin to label all of the items for the children (if they know their class roaster). Teachers arrange and rearrange the desks and tables in order to get a new feel from the previous year. They buy new materials and school supplies.
In addition to all of these “fun” things to do, there is a chore that should never be left out. That chore is sanitizing the room. On every teacher’s to do list should be using bottles of sanitizing spray and tubs of sanitizing wipes. Although children have not been in the room for a couple of months now, it is important to give the new class a fresh start, germ free.
The cleaning will also give your room a fresher scent and atmosphere. And a feeling of overall cleanliness.
Schools are homes for all types of germs and disease. Most teachers take extra precautions during the winter and flu season. However the summer should not be avoided.
Therefore when you are out doing that fun shopping of picking out items for new themes and new decorations, keep in mind that cleaning products are equally as important to aide in your new year to do list.
Parents will also be pleased when they come in to visit and see that you have taken extra care to make the room as clean and safe as possible for their children.
Remember that once you have given a good cleaning one time, it is easier to keep the room clean with smaller cleanings each week.
