Make Cute Doorknob Hangers

Make a cute doorknob hanger to personalize your child’s bedroom door. You can also make other designs that spell out words like love, dance, friends, dreams, etc.

You will need a strip of heavy paper, fabric, or wide ribbon about 22” long and 3” wide. Fold the top over about ½” then fold it over again. Glue in place to make the top sturdier. Cut or punch a hole in the center of the top. Thread narrow ribbon or raffia through the hold and tie a bow. Add another piece and make a loop large enough to hang your project from the doorknob.

Next, cut shapes from poster board or foam core. Try stars, hearts, circles, footballs, flowers, or anything your child likes. You can also mix and match shapes if desired. You’ll need one shape for each letter you plan to use. Shapes should be about 4-5” wide (you may need to add a brace from behind by gluing cardboard to the back of each shape, with the ribbon between the brace and the shape).

Doorknob hanger craftSpace the shapes evenly down the ribbon and glue in place. Add letters cut from paper, craft foam, or fabric, or stencil on letters. Add embellishments as desired. You can add lace or trim around each shape or glue on glitter or beads.

You can also add photos or other images to each shape if you would prefer images instead of spelling out a word. Glue on other items such as dried flowers or small, light toys or charms for a more dimensional effect.

Fold the bottom edge of the ribbon over about 1” and glue in place. Add trim to the bottom edge if desired.

Make doorknob hangers for both sides of the door if desired. Bigger kids may also like this project, but may spell out things like “keep out” or “caution” instead of their names.
