Make Mom’s Day Memorable with These Great Escapes

I love my daughter with all of my heart and can’t imagine celebrating Mother’s Day without her (after all, I wouldn’t be celebrating the day at all if she hadn’t been born). Which is why when anyone asks me what I want for Mother’s Day I simply answer: A relaxing day with my daughter and the rest of my family. However, I personally know several moms (many who have 4, 5, and six kids) who would rather spend May 11th sipping fruity libations ALONE on a tropical island far, far away from children, chores, and the general chaos that rules their everyday lives. If you are related to one of these moms then you might consider the following Mother’s Day travel getaways:

COLORADO

Far View Lodge located in the scenic (and peaceful) Mesa Verde National Park in the southwestern corner of Colorado, near the Four Corners is offering a vacation for moms that even I would enjoy. The lodging’s “DIVAcation” includes a night in a Kiva Room with a private balcony that overlooks the nation’s largest archaeological preserve. The park boasts amazing cliff dwellings and more than 4,000 ancient sites and for just $375 per room per night you’ll receive accommodations plus full breakfast buffet daily, a private tour of an ancient park site with a picnic lunch, and dinner for two. Other perks include a spa welcome basket and a $50 retail voucher redeemable in the gift shop and restaurant. The offer is good now through October 21, 2008.

SOUTH CAROLINA

Talk about a great escape… Wild Dunes, a beach resort located on the Isle of Palms, about a half hour north of Charleston is offering a relaxation package for two. (A great gift option for mothers and daughters.) The resort offers golf, tennis and a world-class spa. Rates start at $830 per room for the two-night package, which includes accommodations, daily breakfast, one hour of group yoga, and one 50-minute massage per person. The price also includes bike rental (to explore Charleston’s beautiful beaches) and one coastal kayaking excursion. The package is good through May 31, 2008.

HAWAII

What mom wouldn’t want to spend Mother’s Day cruising around the Hawaiian Islands? CruisesOnly is giving you the chance to make mom’s day by signing her up for a 15-night Hawaii voyage on board Holland America’s upscale Zaandam. The only catch: the cruise doesn’t set sail until October. Still the early bird gets the deal and this one is hard to beat. For just $1,499 your mom can get an interior cabin on the luxurious Zaandam when it departs from and returns to San Diego. The journey includes stops at five of Hawaii’s most stunning cities—Hilo and Kona (Big Island of Hawaii), Honolulu, Nawiliwili (Kauai), Lahaina (Maui)—as well as Mexico’s Ensenada on the way back to California. The rate also includes eight full days at sea. Oceanview staterooms are also reduced in price to just $1,599, which is a savings of 32% off rack rates.
