Today we are in your bedroom. This could possibly be the most neglected room in the house. It’s easy just to shut the door and forget about it and when unexpected guests arrive everything usually gets shoved in the bedrooms. Out of sight out of mind. This can quickly become a problem.
Is your bedroom a soothing, relaxing place to be or is a dumping ground? First gather up everything that doesn’t belong in your bedroom and return it to the rooms it does belong to. Next throw open your closet and pull out all the clothes and shoes you don’t wear, what are you saving them for? If you only have what you really wear in your closets it’s easier to see what you need. Do the same thing with your dresser, all those holey sock, mismatched socks, stretched out bras, safety pinned slips, get rid of them all. Fold all the clothes neatly in the drawers, if you have some wrapped soaps that smell nice, stick them in the dresser drawers to give your clothing a little bit of fragrance.
What’s in your nightstands? Time to empty those out as well, all the papers and odds and ends, get rid of them. Once you have cleaned everything out take a look at the flat surfaces in your rooms. Is the top of your dresser a catchall for everything? Clean it off, dust really well and find a few family pictures or something else to decorate the tops of those surfaces.
Now the bed, even if you can’t afford new bedding you can still make it look nice. Make the bed, toss some throw pillows on it, and fold a quilt across the bottom. Do you read in bed? Make sure you have a good light next to the bed, one you don’t have to get out of bed to turn off.
At the end of a long day your bedroom should be relaxing and welcoming. Even as an adult my room is my favorite place to just be alone, I do my best relaxing in there, all alone, surrounded by fluffy pillows and a good book or two.
