Make Your Own Exfoliating Scrub

As we get closer to spring, it’s time to put away the heavy sweaters and start showing a little skin. If your skin is anything like my skin, the winter leaves your skin unpleasantly dry and flaky.

You don’t need to buy expensive exfoliating scrubs at the drugstore or pay for a session at the spa. It is very easy and totally affordable to make your own exfoliating scrub at home!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Epsom salts (or other medium grain salt)
  • Olive oil
  • Essential oils for scent, if desired
  • A jar to put them in (glass, if possible)

Directions:

  1. Fill the jar with Epsom salts.
  2. Fill the jar halfway with olive oil.
  3. Add a few drops of essential oil (if desired).
  4. Stir or shake to mix.

When you’re ready to scrub off the dry, dead winter skin, just hop into the tub or shower with your jar of exfoliating scrub. Take a scoop of scrub and rub it all over. Rinse, and wash the dead winter skin away!

After your bath or shower, be sure to use lotion to help your skin stay healthy and hydrated.

So you don’t need to go to an expensive spa for a thorough exfoliation… just whip up a batch of exfoliating scrub at home and pamper yourself for a lot less!

Where to get your supplies:

  • Find the Epsom salts at your drug store or grocery store.
  • Olive oil will be at the grocery store, too!
  • Essential oils can be found at your local health food store, or ordered online.
  • As far as containers go, you can find glass jars at your dollar store for — you guessed it — a dollar! Or, do what I did and the next time you use a jar of spaghetti sauce, clean it out and use that for your scrubs. The wide mouth of the jar makes it easy to get your scrub out with your hand or a spoon.
