Do you wake up sometimes with tired puffy eyes? It happens frequently here for me when the kids have slept well. Allergy season is another time when puffy eyes seems to make a frequent appearance.
Well here is a homemade way to sooth those puffy eyes at a fraction of the cost of fancy creams.
You have heard of using cucumbers over your eyes, haven’t you? We see it all of the time on television, in movies and in magazines. Whether someone wants to promote the idea of a woman in a fancy spa, she is always lying there, wrapped in big fluffy towels with two slices of cucumber over her eyes. Well, there is a reason for that. Cucumber has traditionally been a remedy for tire, puffy eyes. And it does work. But, if you really want amazing results, there are some secrets involved. Following these secrets will give you the biggest results. And of course, it is all very frugal.
When using cucumber as an eye soother, most people pull out whatever soft cucumber they deem to fat gone to eat. But if it is too far gone to eat, then it is too far gone to use on your eyes. You are better off with a nice, fresh, barely ripe cucumber.
Place the cucumber in the refrigerator at least three hours (or overnight) before you are going to use it. Cold cucumber works much more quickly at getting that puffiness down than cucumber that is at room temperature. But don’t freeze the cucumber. The high water content will break the cell structure of the cucumber, making it less than effective.
Consider pureeing your cucumber in a food processor before applying it to your eyes. Remove the peel, first. Yes, this is a little messier, but pureed cucumber gives you more surface area, improving the results.
