Make Your Own “Find it” Game

“Find It” games are great fun for children. Basically, it is a see through container filled with little items. The child shakes it, rolls it, and stares into it to find the items and mark them off on a piece of paper or simply has fun trying to see all there is to see. There is a wonderful company who sells Find It games. They are great fun and if you are not the type to make your own things you may want to buy a few games. However, it is very easy to make your own “Find It” or “I Spy” games with everyday small items you find. What about those little beads, marbles, barrettes or Barbie shoes you are tempted to throw away? All of those little items can easily go into a fun game.

What you need:

Filler: You can use plain rice, corn, or beads. The filler needs to be very small and easily moved if shaken and rolled.

Container: Find a clear container. A cylinder shape works best. However, you could use a clear box or even a plastic baggie. Just be sure to find away to secure it tightly so the contents do not come out. You can use mason jars, clear jelly jars, or even a clean out peanut butter jar. Again, be sure the contents are secure or you will have a huge mess on your hands.

Items: The size of the items will depend on the size of your container. You can use beads, little toys you get from those annoying vending machines in the grocery store, letter beads, number beads, small plastic barrettes, tiny Legos, marbles, game pieces, bottle caps, etc.

List: Type out a list of all the contents so your child knows which object he is trying to find. You can laminate the list so it lasts longer.

Once you gathered all your materials you mix your rice and items in a bowl and then pour into your container. Close the container securely and start playing!
