Make your own Sourdough Bread

I like to make my own Sourdough Bread. I have made it for several years now. I think it’s easy to keep up and it allows me to have sourdough bread all year around. To make Sourdough Bread, you need to first make your starter. The starter contains three ingredients. You simply use from your starter to make your dough.

Sourdough Bread Starter
What you need:

3 Tablespoons of instant potato flakes

3 Tablespoons of sugar

1 cup of warm water

How to make it:

Mix all ingredients together in a glass jar. Cover and let it set at room temperature for 2-3 days. This will allow the mixture to sour. It should look like it has bubbles. Remove one cup of the starter to begin making your first loaf of bread. The recipe is following this one. Remember to feed your starter mixture every 5 to 7 days. Keep it stored in the refrigerator in a glass jar, but loosely covered.

Sourdough Bread

Here is what you need:

1/3 Cup of sugar

1 and 1/2 Cup of warm water

1/2 Cups of oil

1 Cup of starter

1 Tablespoon of dry yeast

2 teaspoons of salt

7-8 cups of all purpose flour

What to do:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Mix sugar, water, oil, starter, yeast, salt and 4 cups of the flour together at once until it is well blended. Add 1/2 cup of flour at a time to the mixture until a soft dough forms. Make sure that the dough does not feel sticky. Turn onto a lightly floured surface and knead the dough for five minutes. Grease a bowl and coat the top of the dough with oil also. Cover and let it rise until it is double in size. Punch down the dough and turn onto a floured surface and knead five more minutes. Divide the dough into two sections and shape each one into a greased loaf pan. Let it set to rise. Once it has risen to the top of the loaf pan, you know it is time to bake. Put it in the oven for 25-30 minutes. Allow to cool before serving. Enjoy!
