I know, I know, it’s not even Thanksgiving yet and I’m blogging about Christmas ornaments. Well, when you have family living 5,000 miles away and you need to ship holiday gifts–but can’t spend a ton of money sending them express or priority mail–you tend to get a jump start on Christmas projects. That’s my situation anyway.
Take a look at one of the simple and affordable ornaments I’m working on to give as gifts this holiday season. The project gives you an additional way to show off your favorite photos and it’s a wonderful way to personalize a loved one’s Christmas tree.
Picture CDs
Save all those free CDs you get in the mail (you know the ones that offer free trials for AOL, etc.) they are perfect for this next photo project. Those disposable discs or any other used, scratched, or old CDs can be turned into shiny ornaments for your Christmas tree.
What You’ll Need:
· Two CDs
· Two small photographs (I use headshots)
· Double-stick tape
· Jelly jar cover, to act as a pattern or any other round template that has a diameter of 2 1/2 -3 inches
· Glue, scissors, pencil
· Narrow ribbon or cord
Directions:
Place the jelly jar cover or other round template on top of each picture and trace around it. Then, cut your pictures and paste them in the middle of the shiny side of each CD. Next, use double-stick tape to adhere the two CDs together (back to back), making sure the tops of the pictures are facing the same direction. Toc create a hole in the top of the CD you’ll need to heat the tip of an awl in a flame. When the awl is hot, push it through the CDs to make a small hole. Let the CDs cool. Finally, loop ribbon through the hole.
