Making Faith Your Focus

In these difficult times it is especially hard to let go of your worries and put your trust in the Lord. One of the most difficult things to do is to let go of the worries that assail us as we deal with difficult circumstances and personal trials. Instead of putting our trust in the Lord, and knowing that he will go with us through our trials, we often fight against the situation and end up feeling alone and scared.

In his talk in Sunday morning session of April 2009 General Conference, President Thomas S Monson spoke about people who put their trust in the Lord during extremely difficult trials. The faith of these people is an example to us all. They chose to put their trust in the Lord and to make faith the focus of their lives.

But how can we choose to make faith the focus of our lives? It is a difficult thing to let go of the small things and the big things and truly make faith and Christ the focus of our lives. It starts by building a relationship with Christ through daily prayer and scripture study. It comes after we begin to follow the teachings that we learn as we study the scriptures and the teachings of the leaders of the church. But for it to truly work, we must ask for the Lord’s help.

When we are faced with difficult times, letting go of the worry means doing what you can and then leaving the rest up to the Lord. This is difficult, but a sense of peace and purpose will come into your life, if you truly put it in the Lord’s hands. This may take long personal prayers and many hours of quiet contemplation, but if you ask for the Lord’s help to increase your faith and trust, it will come. As you persevere your trials will be put into perspective and you will find peace in the situations that you face.
