Making it Easier for Travelers to Tip

left

If you are short on cash, but still want to reward a barista or sandwich maker while you are on vacation, a high-tech solution may be coming your way.

The DipJar is the answer to cash-less travelers looking to give a little extra to a service worker who has gone above and beyond the call of duty.

According to the New York Post, a growing number of businesses are placing the credit card scanners that look like tip jars on counters so customers can place their gratuities on plastic if they don’t have cash to cough up.

The Post says DipJars are becoming a growing trend at places like Starbucks which doesn’t feature a line on its credit card slip for tips. Other places in the Big Apple clearing space for the DipJar include Oren’s Daily Roast , Oren’s at West 112th Street and Broadway, and The Treats Truck Stop at 521 Court Street in Brooklyn.

According to the DipJar’s creator, cash-less customers simply swipe their credit card to leave a $1 tip, and then staff members swipe employee cards when they clock in to get their share.

The Post interviewed a few people who were afraid the credit card tip jar was a scam, but others agreed that it made sense, especially since more and more travelers are paying for purchases with credit and debit cards.

Another way travelers can gain by using their credit or debit card comes courtesy of Air France. The airline is offering passengers the chance to try out its new Airbus A380 superjumbo jet. If you are flying between Paris and either Montreal or Washington, D.C., you will get to experience a new four-class system on the massive double-decker aircraft. In addition to economy, business and first class, Air France is featuring 38 Premium Voyager (premium economy) seats on the plane’s upper deck.
