I spend so much money supporting my scrapbooking hobby; I can’t imagine actually generating an income from my passion. Still, there are tens of thousands of people who have found a way to make money from doing what they love-—making memory books.
If you are looking to get into the scrapbooking business, one of the easiest ways to start is to work as a consultant for a scrapbook sales company. The initial investment is minimal since most companies don’t require that you purchase inventory. The downside is that you probably won’t make a ton of money from the get-go. Plan on making about a 10-30% profit on the merchandise you sell, though that amount differs depending on the company you work for. The most reputable companies out there include: Close to My Heart, Memory Works, Creative Memories and I Remember When.
Another option is to secure employment with ScrapBiz. The company offers more independence since you purchase scrapbook supplies at wholesale prices and sell them when and how you see fit. Another bonus is a larger profit potential. Generally, independent sales consultants make about 40-50% profit.
Some of my stay-at-home mom pals have found a way to make money by creating scrapbook layouts for other people. There are tons of individuals who would love to preserve their photos, but don’t have the time, energy or creativity to design scrapbook pages. You can make money by designing pre-made scrapbook pages, and selling them to others, who can add their own photos and journaling to the layouts.
If you are looking to make a larger profit, then don’t stop at making single layouts; rather, create entire custom scrapbooks for others. This can be an enjoyable business opportunity, but you’ll need to work hard to advertise your services, and be willing to spend money to make money in some cases.
