For me, one of the biggest challenges of scrapbooking is trying to squeeze in all of my favorite photos on a single layout. Often, I have to design a two-page layout to accommodate the themed images I want to feature, and even then I am forced to leave out some nice shots.
Lately, I have been creating photo collages so I can place more photos on a single page. Whereas I love the way the photo collections look, they are time consuming to make and depending on the size of the photos, you still need to be selective with your choices.
One of the easiest photo collage themes is a “Month in Review.” With these collections you can group a bunch of random shots that were taken in a 30-day period and place them on a single or double page layout. Another way to incorporate a series of random shots into a layout is to make a collage title page.
Some of my favorite photo collages are displayed in my daughter’s baby book. During her first few months of life I must have snapped nearly 1000 photos. I arranged some of the photos in chronological order to illustrate how much my baby grew in the span of just a few months.
I also use the photo collage technique when designing travel-themed or vacation scrapbooks. The collages are a great way to show the highs and lows associated with a trip. One of my friends used a photo index print to create a collage for a mini scrapbook. I loved the idea and used it as inspiration for a collage border I created for a wedding scrapbook I crafted a few weeks ago.
