My husband often complains that he does not really get a weekend. It can be frustrating to find time to do things with family over the weekend, especially if you are attending church and keeping the Sabbath day holy. We both love that Sunday is a day that we set aside to honor the Lord, but it does make Saturday a little bit more hectic than it could be if we had two days to accomplish everything we want to on Saturday. Here are five tips to help make the most of your Saturdays.
1) If possible you can try to run most of your errands during the week. If you know that you are planning to work on the yard on Saturday, try to have everything that you will need beforehand. Try to go grocery shopping earlier in the week, so you do not need to go when the supermarket is crowded. This will free up time so that you can accomplish the things that you want to.
2) Try to complete your housecleaning chores on a different day of the week. This may mean assigning each room in your house a certain day, so that you do not have to do everything at once. If you do not have any major cleaning to accomplish on Saturday you can spend more time doing the things that you want to do.
3) Schedule one Saturday a month as family time. This is great time to do something fun as a family. You can go hiking, to the lake, or to a movie. It is a great day to visit the zoo or local museums. You can also plan camping trips in conjunction with this. If you establish this pattern when your children are young, it will be easier to continue it once they are teenagers.
4) If you are working on a major project or in the yard, do it as a family. Many hands will help to accomplish the tasks much faster. It is also important to teach your children the value of work. You can have amazing conversations with your children as you work beside them.
5) Do not try to do too much, so that you are completely worn out on Sunday. Make a goal to finish all of your projects or activities by a certain time on Saturday evening. Try to go to bed early so that you will be well rested on the Sabbath.
