We got about six inches of snow Tuesday, and the forecast is now predicting 8-9 inches for tonight. There have been several different weather advisories, and I’d venture to say the kids will be sent home from school early. After having the last two days off for snow, the school decided to give it a try today. Conditions aren’t bad at the moment, but if this storm hits earlier than expected, they’ll be on their way home. It looks a little threatening, so I’ll be ready to go at a moment’s notice.
I have lived here in the Ozarks for more than a decade and I never remember having this much snow, much less in March. I do remember some of the old timers telling tales of snow two feet deep, just as folks are expecting spring to settle in. Apparently, if we’re going to get any amount of snow, it’s going to be late snow. It’s generally sunny and mild by this time of year, and people are usually planning and preparing gardens. This year, they’re shoveling snow.
I guess sports will be canceled for tonight due to the weather, and if not, my kids will be staying home anyway. It’s strange how after living up north all my life, going out no matter the weather, even with snow up to my backside, I no longer care to venture out in winter storms. Having kids changes one’s outlook (but then again, mountain roads as compared to straight, flat highways may play a role as well).
I think I’ll bake something and maybe make soup. I bought stuff for hot chocolate yesterday, including an extra gallon of milk. I bought extra bread and toilet paper. The warning level was at “buy bread and milk” the past few days, but it may well be up to “buy a sled” by this evening (seriously, this is what it says on the news station).
As for Spring Break, I’m guessing it’s still going to happen in March, but it might just be disguised as snow days.
How’s your weather?
