Her ring finger barely got used to balancing the blinged out boulder Nick Cannon gave her and the next thing you know the deal is sealed.
Did they or didn’t they? Are they or aren’t they? For the past 24 hours media outlets have been going back and forth trying to confirm whether Mariah Carey and Cannon tied the knot for real.
And the verdict…
According to a marriage bureau on the Caribbean island of Eleuthera, Carey and Cannon are officially man and wife.
Just a few days ago I blogged about the singer’s purported engagement… and now she is a newlywed.
So what gives?
According to the New York Post this is how the mid-week seaside vow exchange went down:
To be legally wed in the Bahamas, a couple must be in the country for at least 48 hours, over the age of 16 and have obtained a valid marriage license within 90 days. The Post says Carey and Cannon obtained a license in Eleuthera within that time period and got hitched at the pop star’s private estate off Eleuthera. According to reports, the record-breaking singer owns a mansion on Windermere Island–an exclusive Bahamian island where the rich and famous (including the British royal family) frolic during their down time.
For the record there has been no official word from either Carey or Cannon’s camps about the lighting quick nuptials. However, E! Online did interview members of Cannon’s family who say “Nick called and told us all about it.”
The impromptu island ceremony comes less than two months after 39-year-old Carey and 27-year-old Cannon began what many referred to as a “secret romance” and less than a week after reports of the couple’s engagement surfaced.
Frankly, I was more shocked to hear about the wedding than I was about the engagement. I have to hand it to Cannon, that guy must be some sweet talker. Last year he proposed to Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks after just four months of dating (they split just six months ago) then he got one of the richest women in the world to marry him in less than 8 weeks.
That’s got to be some sort of record.
Oh and about the rock Cannon presented to his new wife. The rumor that he regifted the 12-carat colorless diamond ring he gave to Ebanks is reportedly not true. It turns out that the bauble Carey is sporting is platinum and features a square, 10 carat emerald-cut fancy light pink diamond in the center, surrounded by 58 intense pink diamonds, flanked by two half-moon diamonds. The ring is 17 whopping carats and is valued at $2.5 million, according to the jeweler who designed it.
