And there’s a reason for that…
I’ll explain in a bit, but first I should note that Mariah Carey has yet to officially confirm that the gigantumongous rock on her left ring finger is in fact an engagement ring.
It is.
However, the pop diva did confirm that the ring was a gift from her “good friend” (see: fiancé) Nick Cannon.
The pair was snapped snuggling up to each at the afterparty for her new film, Tennessee, on Saturday night.
The cuddlefest reportedly started earlier that night at the Tribeca Film Festival where the world got a look at the singer’s latest movie in which she attempts to play a troubled waitress and aspiring singer who tackles personal demons on a road trip to Tennessee.
A few weeks ago Carey and Cannon displayed some major public affection at a Las Vegas birthday party for the record-breaking singer’s BFF Da Brat.
Back then 27-year-old Cannon was asked what he loved most about Carey. His response: “Everything.”
Still, Carey did just appear on the Oprah Winfrey Show a few days ago and when pressed by the queen of talk as to whether she was looking forward to getting remarried some day the 39-year-old songstress played it coy, saying she only has eyes for one male: her Jack Russell terrier.
“I’m in love with my dog,” Carey said “He is my special someone. I love spending time with him.”
Hopefully, Cannon does too.
Now, on to Carmen Electra.
No rumors here. The model turned actress practically shouted the news of her new engagement from the top of the Empire State Building.
Perhaps, Electra believes the third time will be the charm for her as she heads down the aisle yet again. This time the man standing at the door of the Vegas chapel will be guitarist Rob Patterson.
The couple has been dating for less than a year but according to Electra, she and her fiancé “were made for each other.”
Hmm… isn’t that what she said before marrying Dennis Rodman?
So, now that you know Electra is getting married again let’s discuss her ring.
“It’s a black diamond, perfect for us,” Electra recently told PEOPLE magazine. “Different – it’s our style.”
To say the least.
I saw a photo of Electra’s ring and it’s about a quarter of the size of Carey’s, though the model’s black diamond is flanked by a couple smaller white diamonds on each side. Still, it’s got nothing on the whopper sitting on Carey’s finger and here’s my theory on why.
I don’t think the size of an engagement ring says anything about the amount of love shared between two people (though I could be wrong); however I do remember Electra saying in a TV interview that aired last year that she was more interested in getting pregnant than she was in getting a marriage proposal so perhaps Patterson is providing Electra with a gift worth way more than a Mariah Carey-size diamond ring.
What’s your theory?
