They said it wouldn’t last… and I agreed.
Sources close to Mario Lopez and his flexible former “Dancing with the Stars” pro partner Karina Smirnoff confirm that the dark-haired duo have called it quits.
The couple first sparked rumors of a romance when they were partnered during the popular dance competition’s third season. Interestingly, the pair never once publicly acknowledged that they were dating despite being photographed canoodling at dozens of celebrity events.
Now it appears Smirnoff is waltzing out of Lopez’s life… and his Los Angeles home—-the place she has reportedly been living for more than a year now.
So does the split mean that the rumors of Smirnoff’s hook up with “the other Mario” are true?
Not likely considering Smirnoff has been repeatedly photographed holding hands with E! Entertainment personality Michael Yo. The two have also been seen quite a bit recently locking lips at Hollywood eatery Beso, which ironically is owned by Lopez’s BFF Eva Longoria. (Now that’s class.)
While Smirnoff has been getting her groove on in L.A. with Yo Lopez has been in New York City busting a move in A Chorus Line on Broadway.
What I find so questionable about this break up (though can you really break up if you technically were never together) is that Lopez and Smirnoff were just interviewed together last week on TV’s “Access Hollywood” when the actor returned to the ballroom with 18 Chorus Line dancers to tape a synchronized number, which will air on Dancing’s 100th episode on May 6. During the interview the two were seen hugging and didn’t appear to be on the outs at all. Lopez spoke about how he plans to embark on a national tour to promote his upcoming book, Mario Lopez’s Knockout Fitness when he wraps up his stint on Broadway and Smirnoff looked on lovingly.
Adding to the confusion (or cover up) is the video TMZ.com ran today showing an interview they just shot with Smirnoff last night. In the clip the petite dancer was asked point blank how things were going with Lopez and she answered: “Great.” She then proceeded to blab about how she was looking forward to flying to New York to see Lopez in action on Broadway, yada, yada.
Little did we know that while Smirnoff was keeping the paps busy the movers were at Lopez’s pad packing up the rest of her things.
