Marriage is a big commitment, this everyone knows, but did you know that there are laws associated with this commitment you are going to make? Marriage is not something to take lightly; there are many very important factors that need to be considered when you are in the midst of a wedding or an engagement.
There are two different types of law when it comes to marriage. The laws that have been created by the government of the state you live in and the laws, or otherwise known as vows that you pledge to one another. Of course it is obvious that to most people the vows that they pledge to each other are far more important than the laws that have been created by the legal system. No matter which one is your high priority it is important to remember that both are necessary in order to be married legally and happily.
The laws that are required by the law of course are your marriage license. This is something that can easily slip your mind in the midst of all your wedding planning and excitement for the big day. Of course depending on the type of wedding that you are having, your priest or person who presides over your ceremony may take the liberty of getting these papers together for you. If this is not the case than do not panic! All you have to do is go down to your city hall or official building near your home and get the paperwork yourself. Without this marriage license you are not married by the law and cannot participate in any of the marriage laws that come with this license.
The main laws that are relevant to married couples have to do with the event of a divorce and of course domestic disputes which has to do with any couple married or not. Most couples should not be concerned about these laws but should want to ensure that their marriage is recognized under their state or country that they live in. Marriage is a commitment that should not only be recognized by yourself and your spouse but by the law as well.
The second kind of laws that are the most special to you and your spouse are of course the vows that you pledged to each other on the day of your wedding. Most people do not think of these as “laws”, but there is no reason why they should not mean as much as a law. When a vow is made, it is important to keep that vow as your word is important and special to your spouse. These vows include loving and cherishing your spouse as long as you both shall live. If these were your vows and they came from the heart, the legal laws of divorce should mean nothing to you.
Marriage is a commitment with many elements to consider. Once you have accepted and completed all of these elements you are on your way to a marriage that will last a life time.
