Marriage–Staying In Love

Your marriage is the foundation of your family. When you first were married you only had each other to depend on. You did not have distractions or children pulling your attention away from the time that you spent together. As your family as grown and your careers have become busier it may be more difficult to find time to strengthen your relationship. It is important to take time to stay in love.

One simple way to stay in love with each other is to spend time together, just being together. Do not talk about the kids, or your complaints about your job. Focus on the reasons that you decided to spend your lives together. When you go on dates remember to compliment each other, and to listen to each other. Take time to talk about your dreams and goals the way that you did in the beginning of your relationship.

Another way to remain in love with each other is to grow together spiritually. This can be done with couple prayer and scripture study. You can also grow together spiritually by attending the temple together regularly. You should take time each year to remember the vows that you made in the temple by doing sealings together.

Another way to build feelings of love for each other is to do small simple acts of kindness each day. You can begin by doing little things for your spouse each day. This will increase the feelings of love you have for your spouse, and your spouse may begin to do nice things for you as well. The best way to change negative feelings you have towards your spouse is by focusing on serving them. (Of course if there are other underlying issues they may need to be addressed.)

Another great way to stay connected is to write letters to each other. You can do this simply by writing in a notebook that you pass back and forth to each other. The notes can be as often as you like, and should be positive in nature. This is a great legacy to build and it should be nice to look over it in the coming years.
