Mature Christians

You can be a Christian your whole life and still not be mature in your faith. Fact is we will spend our whole lives with the opportunity to grow and still not have achieved the perfection of Christ. Thankfully God isn’t looking for perfect people, just hearts that long to know Him and follow Him. I’ve been a Christian a long time but I would not necessarily consider myself mature in faith. I am impressionable and vulnerable to temptation that can cause me to backslide into old habits. I want to grow and mature but the truth is, I lack faith sometimes and become afraid of where the Lord will lead me.

As I look at stronger men and women of faith I see something too many today lack; humility. I see a holy fear, a reverence for the ways of God. It is what tells me they understand the might and power of the Lord and that He’s worth following not just because He’s to be respected, but He is full of love and mercy for us His children as well. It appears to be those mature in their faith who understand God is Lord and creator of all with capabilities to destroy us for our rebellion, but is yet patient and full of grace toward us.

Watching stronger Christians endure hardships that come with life, doing so with courage, wisdom and faith, I recognize this is where I want to be—where I should be. I shouldn’t fear the ways of the Lord. It’s His team I want to play on because it’s undefeated and will continue to be. I need to remember there is not one person here on earth whose love even compares to the love Jesus Christ has for me. Knowing these things and His awesome power, the choice to seek Him in humility and long to grow closer to Him in faith should be simple.

  • Romans 10:17, “So then, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
  • Jeremiah 29:11-13, “For I know the thought that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”
