May in Review, Part Two

An exciting thing this month was welcoming back Rachel, who returns from her leave of absence during which she adopted three children—a toddler from Guatemala and a five-year-old and seven-year-old from Liberia! Rachel wrote An Intro and an Update to reintroduce herself to new readers and bring the rest of us up to speed. She also explained that she will be blogging under the name Shoshanna Grey in order to protect her children’s privacy.

In Coming Soon: Weekly Features, “Shoshanna”described her plans to share blogs about adoption in the news, blogs about waiting children or about agencies which serve them, and blogs about special needs.

Shoshanna, in her blog Our Adoption Story: The Beginning, shared how she felt led to adoption. She then allowed us to share in her heartbreaking story of a referred child who died before he could come home—yet after they had seen pictures and videotapes and thought of him as their baby.

In Our Adoption Story: Starting Again, Shoshanna tells how they begin to heal after losing their baby and how they end up pursuing two adoptions at once—even though everyone else thought they were crazy and, “we thought we were crazy!” she admits.

In Our Adoption Story: the Wait Gets Long, she shares her story of one adoption that took much longer than expected. The tale includes the story of bureaucratic mistakes and even an agency’s pullout from a country. We learn from Shoshanna’s and her husband’s perseverance in pursuing their chosen daughter.

Shoshanna also shared about a special organization that looks for families for children all over the world who have Down’s Syndrome (and a few other conditions too). Many of these children have large grants available to help with their adoption costs. This blog is Thursday’s Child: Reece’s Rainbow.
