May is National Strawberry Month. I love a month dedicated to a yummy food. Of course, I also loved National Eat What You Want Day as well. However, this month is special since the food of the month is not only very good to eat but good for you. I have heard fruit and berries referred to as “nature’s candy” several times in the past. I would say that term is apt for the strawberry. So run to your favorite grocery store, market, or country stand and pick up some strawberries to celebrate. A favorite activity for my family is apple picking so this year we have decided to give strawberry picking a try.
Ways to celebrate National Strawberry Month
Go strawberry picking!
Challenge your family members to a little competition to see who can make the best strawberry dish.
Have a strawberry day where you incorporate strawberries in all your meals and desserts.
Here is a fun way to make strawberries a special treat.
Stuffed Strawberries
Ingredients
Quart of strawberries
(8 Ounce) Fat Free Cream Cheese
¼-1/2 Cup of powdered sugar
Pinch of cinnamon
Directions:
Cut off the tops of the strawberries.
Hollow out the strawberries.
In a bowl combine the cream cheese, powdered sugar and cinnamon.
Fill strawberries with cream cheese mixture.
Serve immediately or chill. Keep refrigerated.
Another easy and fun way to serve strawberries is by simply slicing them and throwing on a fresh green salad. This will add flavor, sweetness and a little bit of color. Strawberries are versatile from breakfast as an addition to your cereal or oatmeal to a fruit salad for lunch or a green salad for dinner to dessert. Take advantage of this time of year when strawberries are in season and ripe for the picking! A sweet way to satisfy your sweet tooth without adding to your waistline.
