Single parenthood does not have to be all “to do” lists and making do. As a matter of fact, now may be the perfect time to revisit and revive some old dreams and desires and your life may be in a place now that you can actually make some of those dreams come true…
Opportunities abound, but we have to be able to look out and see them and reach out and grab them. But, first, we have to identify what it is we want and this can involve going back and looking at some of those dreams and goals from our past that we thought we had to give up on or let go of. Maybe now is the perfect time to recapture that job we always wanted or go back to school or start that business we always dreamed of starting. I know that many of us actually think that our opportunities have diminished with single parenthood but that might not necessarily be the case.
It might take some planning, and it might take some creativity and a bit of patience, but who is to say that now isn’t the perfect time to resuscitate and revive that old dream? Times may have changed, you may be older (but you are also wiser), your resources and options may have changed, and you definitely have a child/children and family to be concerned with—but you may also have more freedom and “gumption” in other areas of your life that you can apply toward making your dreams come true.
So, what was it that you always imagined yourself doing? What dreams did you “give up” in order to get married, partner, or have children? Which goals did you think you had to put aside when you took on the responsibilities of a single parent? Now might be the perfect time to revisit those dreams and give them another try.
