Welcome to the latest in refrigerator technology — the new Maytag Ice2O Refrigerator. I saw this fridge at Home Depot when my husband and I went in there so that he could look at tools for work. Did I mention that my husband works for Maytag? In fact, he is the one who showed me this refrigerator and I fell in love with it. Stemming from the fact that I would probably spend 90% of my day in the kitchen if I could, it would be nice to have a fridge with such a capacity. Allow me to explain the details of this innovative product.
Exterior
The refrigerator has French doors which accounts for the larger space inside. The freezer is located in a bottom drawer that you can easily pull out. The water and ice dispenser is electronically controlled, and you can even select a setting to fill larger glasses and pitchers. Alongside the electronic dispenser is a complete electronic panel that allows you to control and monitor the temperatures of your fridge and freezer. A digital display of the temperature of each is also provided. There is also an alarm to tell you if the temperature gets too warm or cold. The Ice2O even provides a door alarm. Why would you need an alarm on your refrigerator door? Well, this alarm can be programmed to go off if you leave the refrigerator door or freezer drawer open for longer than four minutes. Not only will you save your food from being spoiled, but it also cuts down energy loss. Speaking of energy — going out of town for a while? The Vacation Mode tells your Ice2O that you won’t be around for a while, so it limits automatic defrosting which helps keep your energy costs low.
Interior
The first thing I noticed when I opened the refrigerator doors was the built-in organizer in the door. This organizer allows you to store 20-ounce bottles and cans in your door, saving shelf space for food. Another shelf-space-saving feature is the Beverage Chiller. Not only do you save space by storing your drinks here, but this compartment keeps them up to four degrees colder than items in the rest of the fridge. Shelves can glide in and out or be moved up and down to accommodate taller items. The crisper drawers have humidity control, and there is even a deli drawer specifically for meats and cheeses.
Freezer
I mentioned some of the freezer features that also go to the refrigerator, such as the temperature controls and the door alarm. However, this freezer is revolutionary in more ways than those. This freezer has bins for storage — one large in the bottom, and two smaller glide out bins in the top. Plus, it can hold up to 120 pounds of food!
