McCain Cooking Up Controversy and “The Boss” Backs Barack

In a previous blog I discussed first lady Laura Bush’s upcoming gig as guest host on NBC’s “Today” show. Now it appears ABC is following suit by inviting Cindy McCain to join the ladies on “The View” – for a day.

The wife of Republican candidate John McCain is scheduled to serve as a co-host on the daytime chatfest next Monday… and resident Republican host Elisabeth Hasselbeck couldn’t be more thrilled.

Frankly, I’m surprised Cindy McCain is appearing on the show when her husband was there just last week. (John McCain has been on “The View” four times since it started airing more than a decade ago.)

Several news organizations (and a few late-night comedians) haven’t wasted any time joking that Cindy McCain should steer clear of any cooking segments during her stint on “The View.” The jab comes on the heels of John McCain’s embarrassing moment earlier this week, which included the confession that a campaign intern posted recipes on the politican’s website that were lifted from the Food Network (specifically Rachael Ray) and falsely passed them off as being Cindy McCain’s own culinary creations.

If Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is looking for a new campaign theme song he won’t have to beg super stars to lend a hand.

Many of them are already lining up to support the senator from Illinois, including rock star Bruce Springsteen who officially announced his endorsement for the presidential hopeful yesterday.

In a statement posted on his website, Springsteen told fans that Obama “speaks to the America I’ve envisioned in my music for the past 35 years.” The award-winning singer also added that he believes Obama is the best candidate to undo “the terrible damage done over the past eight years.”

The New Jersey resident is known for singing about the struggles of working-class Americans and has long been an outspoken advocate for economically distressed voters. Springsteen and his E Street band made headlines when they joined the Vote for Change tour, a coalition of musicians opposed to the re-election of President Bush in 2004. Springsteen also got the attention of media outlets when he wrote the anti-war ballad “Devils and Dust” about the conflict in Iraq.
