Mead Johnson Recalls GENTLEASE Formula

Look up Moms. The FDA posted an alert that Mead Johnson is conducting a recall for their Gentlease powder infant formula. The lot number for this formula recall is BMJ19 and has a use by date of July 1, 2007. If you use this type of formula, please check your lot numbers and use by dates. This particular lot contains metal particles up to 2.7 millimeters in size.

There are no illnesses reported related to this particular formula, however the presence of metal particles present a serious respiratory risk if they are inhaled. Damage to the throat is also possible. Injuries should show up within four hours of exposure, however the symptoms themselves could be varied depending on where the damage is.

Throat damage symptoms include:

  • Coughing
  • Difficulty Swallowing
  • Difficulty Breathing

Lung damage symptoms include:

  • Coughing
  • Difficulty Breathing

The FDA urges parents who may have fed this formula to their infants should contact their pediatrician if there are concerns for the baby’s health. Mead Johnson took the first steps to alert the FDA and they are investigating what caused the metal particles to contaminate the formula. If you have cans from this batch, please contact Mead Johnson at 888-587-7275 as soon as possible.

If I see any more news or related information to this recall, I will be sure to update this post as soon as possible. Recalls are done when infant and child safety is at risk. It’s important to take note of any and all details related to the recall in order to keep your baby’s safe.
