I love to cook but sometimes I really don’t feel like cooking. Most busy moms feel the same way at one time or another. I’ve often remarked that I wish I could have a chef come to my house and prepare all my meals for me. How many of you have said the same thing? With more women in the workforce and a record number of women working from home either running their own business or being fortunate enough to have a job that offers flexible work arrangements, it’s no surprise several companies have stepped in to offer prepared meals for busy parents.
There are several online delivery services that offer ready to heat and eat meals delivered to your door. Here are just a few I found simply by doing an Internet search.
Home Bistro–
Yum! The selections sounds tempting (Filet Mignon with jumbo shrimp, anyone?), but most of the selections are geared more toward adult meals. Great for when the kids are at grandma’s or after they’ve gone to bed or anytime you get tired of chicken nuggets and mac-n-cheese.
A la Zing – More gourmet meals like bacon wrapped pork chops. Also some good family classics and ten minute meals.
DineWise – This is a good site for dieters and those on special meals, like diabetics. They offer a variety of meals including diet meals and family favorites. You can create your own meal by mixing and matching food choices.
If you prefer the hands on approach you can choose one of the meal assembly services available in select cities. You will still save time in the end because you won’t have a lot of shopping to do and you basically prepare meals at one time, freeze and then cook when needed. Some companies that offer this service include One… Two…Three Dinner, presently available only in New York and Let’s Dish!, which has several locations to choose from including New York , New Jersey and Delaware.
If you decide to go this route you would work a series of food-assembly stations putting meat, fish and veggie meals together. You create usually five to eight entrées that will feed four to six people. The cost for the five meal package is about $130 and $185 for eight. It will generally take you about 1½ hours to make eight meals. Then you simply take them home, freeze them and cook when needed.
