Media Week in Review July 14th – 19th

We had a great week here in Media Reviews! In case you missed out, here’s a summary of what we discussed.

We started the week with an author interview. Abel Keogh, author of “Room for Two,” chatted with us about his writing process and the things he learned along the way. We then took a look at “Organic for Health,” a book which tells us of the importance of going organic and how it can help us overcome our health issues. It also includes some tasty-sounding recipes.

I’d Really Like to Eat a Child” is a quirky children’s picture book about a little crocodile who refuses to eat his dinner because it’s not what he’s in the mood for. Great for your little picky eater!

In “Miss Invisible,” Freddie feels insignificant because of her weight problems. But when she makes a new friend whose size doesn’t hold her back, Freddie realizes that she has a lot to offer, regardless of her size.

SISTERCHICKS Down Under” is the story of a woman who visits New Zealand with her husband and feels sorry for herself that she has nothing to do, until she makes a new friend who shows her what life is really all about.

Does your child get nervous about speaking in public? “Henry’s Show and Tell” may help him realize that we all get nervous sometimes, but it’s okay.

A Short Guide to a Happy Life” is a nonfiction offering from novelist Anna Quindlen. Through photography and well-chosen words, Quindlen expresses the need to feel gratitude for every day and to not take life for granted.

The International Children’s Digital Library Foundation is an amazing resource online to help us find those children’s picture books we’ve been looking for.

Autumn Sky” is an LDS historical fiction novel about the importance of following your heart and doing what you know is right. We learned that country superstar Lee Ann Womack has a new release, her first in a couple of years, slated to come out this fall. We also read about “An Exchange of Gifts,” a beautifully illustrated sweet fairy tale by Anne McCaffrey.

Once Upon a Day” by Lisa Tucker is a novel with compelling plot and characters. Be sure to read the full review for content issues.

We ended the week with “Sylvester and the Magic Pebble,” an endearing story about a pebble-collecting donkey that won the Caldecott Medal in 1970.

We hope you enjoyed this look back at the week, and that you’ll join us again soon here in Media Reviews.
