Meditation Techniques: Color Meditation

Color meditation is a healing form of meditation that focuses on colors, rather than a mantra. In this form of meditation, the basic belief is that energy bodies within the human body are related to health and wellness. When the energy is in balance, the body is well. However, when the energy is out of balance or not in harmony, it eventually is manifested as an illness or disease.

Energy healing meditation is designed to restore balance to the energy within the body. Color is used to heal and restore the energies. During meditation, you will visualize balls of light in all colors of the visible light spectrum.

There are several benefits to color meditation, including physical, spiritual and emotional balance, increased awareness of health and vitality and is calming to the body and mind. In addition, the visualization in the practice helps to increase focus and concentration, which may have cognitive benefits.

Sometimes people who find it difficult to concentrate during meditation find this practice easier. Because you are visualizing the balls of light, it may help prevent the mind from becoming easily distracted and disrupt your practice. Also, if you enjoy visualization, you may find this type of meditation helpful.

Color healing meditation is practiced in a seated pose, similar to many other types of meditation. You can sit on a pillow, meditation cushion or anywhere that feels comfortable to you. Choose a place that is quiet and where you won’t be disturbed.

Close your eyes and visualize a ball of bright, gold light floating above your head. Imagine the light moving down through the top of your head and through your body. As the light is moving through the body, imagine it filling all areas and crevices of the body.

You will continue this process with the other colors of light, such as blue, green, purple, orange, etc. Throughout the practice, as the colors of light are moving through the body, imagine the body absorbing the light and dissolving anything that is blocking the energy. Feel the healing energy in your body and imagine your body and mind in perfect health and balance.
