Meet a Families.com Blogger – Courtney Mroch!

courtneyCourtney Mroch is the next awesome blogger to be featured here in our Families.com Blogger series. Courtney, thanks for taking the time to chat with me today.

How long have you blogged for Families.com?

I started in December 2006.

What topics do you blog about?

I started out assigned to Pets, but in September 2007 I also took on
Marriage. But I like to guest blog in Food, Travel, Computing, and have
recently ventured into new territories in Home, Money, and Health.

What is your favorite thing about blogging for Families.com?

Hands down, my fellow bloggers and the readers! (Something I think Lisa and Mary Ann alluded to in their interviews with you too.)

What do you like to do when you’re not blogging?

Volleyball, volleyball, and more volleyball. In the winter I play two to three nights a week, but in the summer I’m only home two to three nights a week. (I love sand volleyball the most!)

But even though I have a crazy passion for volleyball, my husband and my fur kids always come first. I love spending time walking my dog Murphy and playing with the cats (who might be the most spoiled in the toy department of any cats you’ve ever heard of). And since Wayne likes my cooking so much, I make sure to do a lot of that for him.

I also used to like to read but don’t have much time for that anymore.
Mainly because I’m usually busy creating my own fiction. (I write short
stories and novels.)

Eating, traveling, and watching movies also rank up there for other
activities that occupy my time when I’m not blogging.

Is there anything in particular you would like our readers to know about
you?

I may not look like one at first glance (I’m short and fat), but I’m an
athlete at heart. I figure skated growing up for 7 years. I played field
hockey in high school. I was the goalie for the University of Arizona’s
Women’s Club Lacrosse team for two years in college. I joined a Master’s
Swim team when I was 28 and learned to do the butterfly at 32. I started
playing league volleyball when we moved to Nashville two years ago.

I’ve never been outstanding at any of these sports, but I’ve been passionate about every one. And participating in all of them has introduced me to many amazing people who have become lifelong friends, which has been the biggest confidence booster.

Because at 175 pounds and barely reaching 5’2″ I don’t look like an athlete. Yet people have always given me a chance and looked past the façade. In such an image-obsessed culture you wouldn’t think that’d be the case. Or at least I didn’t. It’s been the best lesson I’ve ever learned.

I’d offer to go play volleyball with you, but see, I have this little problem. Balls like to hit me. No matter what sport, if there’s a ball involved, I get hit. I’ll cheer you on from a distance!
