Meeting the Radiation Oncologist

The tumor is gone, chemotherapy is done so what is next in my treatment plan; RADIATION.

The medical oncologist is nice enough to give me about a month off to rest before the radiation starts. I had an appointment with my radiation oncologist, I already knew her, and she was my husband’s oncologist the year before. See in 2004 my husband was diagnosed with stage 1 testicular cancer. I am not sure why we both got the big C let’s just call it luck. Good or bad I am not sure but its luck just the same. If you have been following my cancer journey blog you know that I kept putting my mammogram off until a certain radiation oncologist came to the hospital to set me straight in my ways.

So I meet with this wonderful doctor with a big heart, such a difference from the first oncologist I had, the one who basically made me feel like I was going to die tomorrow. I told her what he said and how it made me feel worried and stressed all the time. She was patient and kind and apologetic for the other oncologist in her practice.

So with breast cancer modesty basically goes out the window. I used to joke with my husband that when I was younger I never had to pay people to look at the “girls” and now I am paying men and now a woman to look & touch them. It was really funny when I had my first meeting with the radiation oncologist (who by the way looks like Vanessa Williams) she joked about if they took a tumor the size of mine out of her she would have an inny. She said that my “girls” looked great. This comment caused my husband to bust out laughing. He said that it was weird to have a woman say that about my “girls”. Well if he thought it was weird for him try being me!

So the treatment plan was going to be 33 days of radiation. Great soon I am going to glow!

About Tammy Woolard

My name is Tammy and I am 40 year old mother of 3 wonderful children who came to us through domestic adoption. Although we did not have any fertility issues we chose adoption because there are so many kids that did not ask to be born but truly want a family to love. We did research on adoption choices and decided on domestic adoption through CPS. You would be surprised the differences between each agency. The adoption process is nothing like you see in the movies. I am also a 5 year breast cancer survivor. When I was diagnosed my kids were 3, 5 and 7 I did so much research I may have driven my Dr. a little crazy but that is ok it is my body not his.
