Her father has yet to secure the job presently held by George W. Bush (though he’s gunning for it), but that’s not stopping Meghan McCain from trying to emulate current first daughter Jenna Bush.
Meghan McCain, the daughter of Republican presidential candidate Senator John McCain just announced that like Jenna Bush she is author material and will be writing a children’s book.
“I am truly excited about the opportunity to write a children’s book about my father, who is not only a fantastic dad, but also a great American,” the 23-year-old said in a statement earlier this week.
Meghan McCain’s book has yet to be titled, but will reportedly hit the shelves during the first week of September, to coincide with the Republican National Convention, when her dad will be officially declared the Republican candidate.
According to Meghan, her book will “offer children the unique opportunity to see the character building events that happened over his lifetime, experiences that led up to his current bid to become the future President of the United States.”
Meghan McCain is the eldest of the senator and Cindy McCain’s three children and is an Art History graduate of Columbia University. Prior to committing to pen her new book she worked as an intern at Newsweek magazine and on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.” Currently, Meghan is operating a blog in which she chronicles her experiences on the campaign trail with her father as well as her interests in fashion, music, and pop culture.
According to reports, Meghan’s blog, McCain Blogette, hasn’t been met with too much success, but she says that’s not stopping her from writing. McCain says writing has always been a passion of hers and she is delighted to be using her dad as the subject of her first book.
In addition, McCain says she plans to honor her father’s war-hero status by donating a portion of the of the proceeds from sales of her book to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, which helps military personnel and veterans who have suffered severe traumatic brain injuries.
As for jabs from some critics that she is copying Jenna Bush, daughter of President George W. Bush, who recently published a book for teenagers about meeting a young single mother in Panama coping with the HIV virus and collaborating on a children’s book with her mother Laura, Meghan insists she’s just doing her own thing.
