Stressed
Let’s face it, we all have stress. Some people have more than others do. One person’s stress will probably differ from another person’s stress. Parenting is tough work and single parenting is even more so. Being the only parent leaves you with all of the responsibilities to shoulder alone. There is nobody to say, “Here, take over. I need a break.” We all need some quiet time in our lives to de-stress our bodies though. Finding that time is a challenge in itself, but this is something that we must do at the end of each day in order to get ready for the next day full of challenges and responsibilities. If left to build up without any relief our bodies will suffer distress. This can lead to an outcome that manifests itself in a physical way through all sorts of ailments, which include headache, stomach discomfort, high blood pressure, chest pain, sleeping disturbances, fatigue, and/or mental stress.
Regaining Your Strength
Below is a list of helpful suggestions to help you ease your stress at the end of the day.
• Find a quiet time at the end of each and every day. This should be a time where you can just sit by yourself and recoup
without any disturbances. Put the
children to bed early and do something just for you.
• Take a bubble bath. When was the last time you did this? Once you do this, you will want to do it again and again.
• Read something that you have been wanting to read. Make this a nightly ritual if even for only 15 minutes or so.
• Slip on some headphones and listen to your favorite music. Something soothing would be perfect.
• Give yourself a facial massage. This has been known to have a great relaxing effect on the entire body.
• Do your nails. Go the whole nine yards and give yourself a pedicure while you are at it.
• Write out your thoughts on paper. Putting your feelings down on paper has a therapeutic effect on the mind, thereby
releasing some of your stress. If you do
not want the paper hanging around afterwards then rip it up when you are done.
• Be creative. Draw, paint, needlework, crochet, knit. Do whatever it is that you like to do.
• Watch something relaxing either on television or on the internet.
Do not let anyone tell you that you are selfish for wanting to do this for yourself. This is something that you need to do for you in order to better care for your children.
