Memorable Moments: Romance in the Air

Do you like to reminisce with your spouse about those special moments the two of you have shared together? Heather shared some of her “Hidden Treasure” moments, and I’m going to share my favorite romantic moment. We hope you will tell us about some of your best moments and take some time to relive them with your spouses.

One of the most romantic moments my husband and I shared was on the way home from a date. It really wasn’t much of a date, because I ended up working later than planned. He’d met me there so we could go out and enjoy the rest of the evening together. By the time I got done working, it was getting pretty late. I was tired and it was nearly closing time at most of the places we liked to go. I decided not to bother changing and getting ready to go out. I was in my uniform with my hair in a ponytail and not exactly looking like I was ready for a night on the town.

I asked him to take me home, but along the way, Clapton’s Wonderful Tonight came on the radio. He turned it up, pulled over, came around, took my hand, and helped me out of his truck. We danced right there in the street, under the moonlight. It was so sweet, so touching, that it was all I could do to keep the tears in my eyes from overflowing.

I knew right then that I would never love anybody else. It wasn’t just because he was so sweet and romantic, or that he still thought I looked wonderful even when I was a mess, but because he loved me enough to do something so out of the ordinary just to make me feel special. You’d have to know my rather shy husband to understand the effort involved in this. He really put himself out there with that gesture, and it meant the world to me. In fact, You Mean the World to Me, by Toni Braxton is “our song.” We still smile when we hear Clapton too, and sometimes we even dance.

We’ve had other romantic moments, but that one will always be my favorite. I still melt every time I think about it and it happened almost thirteen years ago.
