Memorial Day Craft

First my apologies for not having a picture of the craft mentioned in this post. It is a craft I made many years ago with my oldest daughter. My two younger girls will be making it on Monday. It is easy to visualize and execute so you should have no problem getting through it. It is so much fun to make and best of all easy to do. Depending the age of your child, you may want to do all the prep work beforehand. However, if you have a little one who enjoys cutting and can cut fairly well then let him go for it. My oldest daughter made this project completely on her own when she was four. I found the flaws in her cutting to be charming. She was so proud of herself making a project on her own.

American Flag

Supplies:

Construction paper in red, white, and blue

Glue

Safety scissors

Instructions:

First, make the stripes for the American Flag by simply cutting strips from the white and red construction paper.

Second, cut out stars from white construction paper. You can cut them freehand or trace a star on first and then cut. You can also use stickers if you do not want to cut the stars out.

Third, cut the blue construction paper to mirror the blue rectangle on the American Flag.

Fourth, decide on a color you want to use for the background of your flag. You won’t see much of it, if at all, so any color will do.

Fifth, glue the stripes on first since the stripes will take up most of the space. If you decide to use white or red as your background you can save yourself from cutting all the stripes and just glue one set of stripes and allow the background to be the second set. My daughter loved to cut so I allowed her the fun of cutting all the stripes.

Sixth, glue the blue box in the proper position and then the starts on the box.

That’s it! Simple, easy, fun, and yet so memorable and meaningful!
