Memorial Day is right around the corner. Are you ready? The unofficial start to summer heralds the arrival of super scrapping. Summertime yields so many memorable moments to document, that avid scrappers often go into overdrive photographing, collecting embellishments, and experimenting with new layouts.
I am by no means a super scrapper, but Memorial Day is one holiday that I make a point to document well, so that I can create stand-out page designs. However, crafting a spectacular layout doesn’t come without planning. Before you kick off the Memorial Day weekend festivities, consider the types of images you want to record.
For example, if you are planning a family trip to the beach this Memorial Day weekend, make a list of the pictures you want to include in your scrapbook, such as your children’s footprints in the sand, your toddler splashing in the water, the whole family building a sand castle, grandma applying sunscreen on grandpa’s back, or your kids collecting seashells at the water’s edge.
In addition to some posed shots, don’t forget to snap candid photos as well. After all, nothing captures the genuineness of a moment more than an unrehearsed shot, whether it includes your son running after a flock of seagulls, your daughter diving into an ice cream cone, or your spouse watching a gorgeous sunset.
While you are at the beach, remember to collect a few mementos to add to your scrapbook layouts. You don’t have to weigh yourself down with a ton of stuff; rather select a few simple yet meaningful items, such as sand, seashells, or postcards of the beach.
In regards to embellishments, scrapbook supply stores are teeming with beach-themed goodies this time of year, from stickers of beach umbrellas, bathing suits and beach balls to fish, palm trees, waves and bottles of sunscreen. You could also purchase die cuts in the shape of sandals and sail boats to add some spice to your layouts.
