Memories Mean More to Me

potteryThis last Saturday, I spent the day at the pottery place about 45 minutes from my home. It was a date with my daughter. We spent three hours in there that afternoon, and it was the most relaxing, best time I have had in a long time. Spending time with my six year old always makes me feel happy inside. It makes me feel so lucky to have her in my life.

As she was painting her plate and I was painting my mug, I thought of snapping a few pictures. But then, I decided not to because I just didn’t want to interrupt the serene experience we were having together. I was just as happy recording the images of us sitting side by side chatting, listening to conversations around us, and helping each other with our paints.

When we were finished, my daughter asked if she could pay. I wrote the check, and she took care of paying the kind lady at the pottery place. She just wants to feel grown up, but at the same time, she wants to spend time with her mommy.

I love this. I love how as she grows our relationship evolves. I have one wish. That wish is that someday, maybe 10 or 15 years from now we’ll be able to sit next to each other to do the same thing as we did on Saturday. Maybe not paint pottery together, although that would be just fine, but just spend quality time together enjoying each other’s company.

Our bond is so strong now, and I don’t ever want that to end. I must say that at least I have memories for now. I can hold on to that comfort. These memories mean more to me than any picture could ever mean to me.
