I suppose if Nancy Kerrigan can do it, why not Michael Phelps?
The king of the pool will be stepping into unchartered waters when he hosts the season premiere of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” on September 13th. (We all know the number 8 was great for the swimming sensation in China; now we’ll get to see how 13 treats him.)
The golden boy of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China will not only be making his acting debut on the late-night institution, Phelps will also be hooking up with the recording artist whose music motivated him in the last moments before he dove into the pool and broke Mark Spitz’s record for most gold medals won at a single Olympics. According to “SNL” producers, Lil Wayne has agreed to be the musical guest when the show kicks off its 34th season.
The 23-year-old swimming prodigy follows in the footsteps of sports figures such as LeBron James and Peyton Manning and former Olympians like Kerrigan and skier Jonny Moseley, who have hosted the late-night comedy fest in the past.
The week before he takes the stage in New York Phelps will be in L.A. joining the likes of Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan and Ciara as presenters at MTV’s Video Music Awards.
He may seem like he’s everywhere, but one place you won’t find Phelps is at this week’s Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado.
Though the same can’t be said for Oscar winner Ben Affleck, who spent yesterday packing food for the charity America’s Second Harvest with Colorado first lady Jeannie Ritter and Barack Obama’s wife Michelle. The night before the handsome actor played poker to benefit paralyzed veterans.
While there he gave a shout out to his pals George Clooney and Brad Pitt, who are in Italy right now promoting their film “Burn After Reading” at the Venice Film Festival.
